Story Book Portraits

I am a fan of the Busy Bee Lifestyle and they are having a contest to win a gift certificate for Story Book Portraits! How I would love to have that for Gianna! She would look so cute pictured in a book!

But I thought it was only fair to share the opportunity to everyone else, so if you are interested, follow this link!

Tutus - All the Craze!

I was reading in the recent People magazine and was surprised to learn that tutus are becoming quite a popular fashion trend, outside of the "costume" and "dress-up" norm.

Seeing as how this is becoming quite a popularity, I am hoping everyone will take an interest and try to follow this new fashion trend!

Tutus are no longer considered a "play" item and can truly dress up any outfit!

I am in the process of making some Fall inspired tutus. Please check out my website at www.lehlashop.etsy.com in the next couple of weeks as I will be posting new items!

Happy shopping!

Red River Moms Short Story Contest

Well, I just received a phone call from the Shreveport Times and was told that I won the Short Story contest that I had entered.

I cannot believe that I won!!!  I have never won anything before!

If you would like to read my story you can either pick up a copy of the August issue of Red River Moms or you can read below.  I hope you all like it!

Ella Grace and her garden

Hi!  My name is Ella Grace.   Today my family and I are going to plant a garden and I am really excited!  My Mommy and Daddy said that if we plant our own garden, we can grow our own vegetables all summer long!

Let’s see, we have some lettuce, cucumber and pepper seeds!  We even have some tomato plants!

My Daddy shows me how to rake the dirt and get it ready for the seeds.  He says that the best way to plant the seeds is to plant them in a row.  We are even going to plant some flowers so that the garden looks pretty.

We made some labels to put into the ground so that we would know where we planted each vegetable.

It is my job to water the garden every day.  This will help the seeds grow into plants.  In a few weeks the seeds will grow into seedlings.  My Daddy says that a seedling is a young plant.  He says I am kind of like a seedling!

I also make sure my garden gets plenty of sunshine.  Plants like to be in the sun.   This also helps them grow to be big, strong plants.

Look at my garden now!  Can you believe all of this grew from those little seeds?

Everyday my mommy and I go out to the garden and pick some vegetables.  I get to help her make a salad for dinner.   My mommy says there is something special about eating the vegetables that we grew ourselves.  I think they taste really yummy!

I can’t wait until we can grow another garden next year!

Girls Night Out

Well, last night my girlfriends and I all went out for a girls' night out.  We had dinner at Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro on the boardwalk.  Ahh...the beach bum martini is the best!!!
Dinner was great we all had good fun and good talks!  After dinner we did a little shopping until it was time to head to the movie theater.  Gotta love it when everything is in one place!

We went to go see "The Proposal".  OMG!!!  What a great movie!  I haven't laughed like that in a long time.  I was breathless with laughter and tears were streaming down my face!
And then we headed to the "girlie" store which again was a barrel of laughs!

All in all I had a wonderful night and realized once again that moving to Louisiana was so good for me because I met and made such wonderful friends.

farmer's market update

well, the farmers market trip was a success.  we purchased some bread, granola and a huge watermelon.  it will take an army to eat that whole watermelon!
gianna was good for the most part.  she is in a very "touchy, feely" stage and wants EVERYTHING!
after the market we headed to the founta
ins down by the river.
that was a blast!  gianna had so much fu
n and finally ran through the water so that her head got wet!  i was so proud of her!
then we headed to Petsmart.  they were having adoption day and of course i fell in love with a dog.
there was something about this dog that i felt so connected with her.  she was a terrier mix, about 1 1/2 years old and she was tan and black.
she was little too, with these little paws and a little tongue that just kissed you all over!  she was definitely a lap dog!  she just wanted to be held in your arms.
she was a bit mangy, but i think that is what drew me to her.
well, unfortunately i was told "no" and she did not come home with me.  i actually shed tears on the way home and felt a heaviness in my heart.
i know the responsibility of another dog is large and there is always the additional cost.  but i think having her with us might have helped me a bit.
maybe lifted a bit of the sadness that has surrounded me again lately.
and i thought that maybe this little dog would grow up with gianna, be her little side kick.
but i suppose i missed the chance on her and hopefully someone else wanted to give her a good home.
otherwise, maybe we will meet again and then i will know we were meant to be together!

farmers market

good morning!  we are finally going to attempt the Farmer's Market this morning!  Yippee!
Although we have been trying to grow our own garden to harvest our own vegetables, there is something exhilarating about going to the Farmer's Market.
Unfortunately our market here in the south isn't like the markets you would find in California or most other highly populated areas, but it is still fun the same!
i will be sure to check in later to update on our experience there!
